What is the difference between capacitive touch screen and resistive touch screen?

Operating principle
  • Capacitive Touch Screen monitor: The coupling capacitance is formed between the human body static electricity and the screen, and the tiny current is absorbed when touching. The touch position is determined according to the proportion of the four corner electrode current, and the electric field induction realizes high-precision positioning and fast response.
  • Resistive touch screen: composed of two conductive layers, by pressure contact to generate electrical signals, through the conversion circuit and the processor to calculate the X, Y coordinates to determine the touch position, response speed due to physical contact pressure slightly slow.
Touch mode:
  • Capacitive touch display: light touch is triggered, depending on the electric field capacitance change, non-conductor can not operate.
  • Resistive touch screen: It is necessary to apply pressure to make the conductive layer contact to generate signals. Fingers, nails, stylus, etc. can be operated, and gloves can also be worn (if they can transmit pressure).

Sensitivity

  • Capacitive touch screen panel: Based on electric field induction, the capacitance changes when the finger is close to the screen, the operation response is fast, and the sliding click is smooth.
  • Resistive touch screen: It needs a certain pressure to trigger, and insufficient pressure may cause no response to the operation, affecting the convenience.

Effect of display

  • Capacitive touch screen: good material technology, high transparency, good visibility under strong light, excellent color reproduction and contrast.
  • Resistive touch screen: Due to the conductive layer and gap structure, the transparency is slightly inferior, the image text clarity, color reduction and contrast are slightly lower.

Durability

  • Capacitive touch screen: the surface is mostly toughened glass and other wear-resistant materials, anti-scratch ability is strong, long-term use appearance and touch performance is good.
  • Resistive touch screen: the outer plastic is easy to scratch, scratch may affect the accuracy and recognition of touch signal, durability is weak.

Multiple touches

  • Capacitive touch screen: native support for multi-touch, multi-finger operation to achieve zoom, rotation and other complex gestures, good interaction experience.
  • Resistive touch screen: in the early single touch, although there is improvement, the performance and stability of multi-touch are not as good as that of capacitive screen, and it is easy to show signal interference, inaccurate position and misrecognition of gestures.

Cost

  • Capacitive touch screen: the material (high-quality ITO conductive layer, toughened glass, etc.) and process (high-precision induction circuit, complex control chip) are complex and costly.
  • Resistive touch screen: simple structure (two conductive layers and conversion circuit), low material and process cost, price advantage, suitable for cost-sensitive equipment.

Anti-jamming capability

  • Capacitive touch screen: normal environment anti-electromagnetic interference is strong, but sweaty hands or screen damp, capacitive characteristics change touch operation disorder or not accurate.
  • Resistive touch screen: anti-electromagnetic interference is weak, sensitive to temperature and humidity, extreme environmental performance is greatly affected, easy to touch or touch insensitive.

Field of application

  • Capacitive touch screen: used in smart phones, tablets, smart watches, etc., to meet the needs of consumer electronic devices with high touch experience and display effect requirements.
  • Resistive touch screen: used in industrial control, POS machines, etc., widely used in cost-sensitive or precise touch operation fields.
