what is the difference between PCAP and IR touch?

PCAP (Projected Capacitive Touch Screen) and IR touch mainly have the following differences. In principle, the PCAP touch screen works by using the current sensing of the human body. It has a transparent conductive material coating on the screen surface. When the finger touches the screen, due to the existence of the electric field of the human body, a coupling capacitance will be formed between the finger and the conductive layer on the screen surface. It is as if in a calm electric "lake", the touch of the finger is like a small stone, causing a change in the "lake" (capacitance), so as to be perceived. The IR touch screen frame works by placing infrared emitting tubes and infrared receiving tubes around the screen frame. When there is an object (such as a finger) blocking the infrared ray, the position of the blocked infrared ray is calculated to determine the touch point. This is like a "big net" woven by the infrared ray, and the touch of the finger is like a "small insect" that breaks in and destroys the complete path of the infrared ray, and then the touch position is found. In terms of performance, the touch accuracy of the PCAP touch screen is relatively high. Because capacitive sensing can very sensitively capture small capacitance changes, it is like a keen "haptic master", which can accurately locate the touch point, and is suitable for occasions with high touch accuracy requirements, such as fine drawing software. While the accuracy of infrared touch screen overlay can also meet the general needs, but in this respect slightly inferior. But the infrared touch screen has a big advantage is its adaptability. It can not be limited by the material and conductivity of the screen surface. Whether it is glass or some special plastic materials, it can work normally as long as it does not affect the transmission of infrared rays. This is like an inclusive "warrior" who is less demanding on the "Jianghu environment" (screen surface material) of touch. Moreover, the infrared touch screen anti-interference ability is relatively strong, even in some complex electromagnetic environment, as long as the infrared can be normally transmitted and received, it can work normally. In contrast, the PCAP touch screen may be disturbed by the surrounding electric field, magnetic field and other factors, like a master who is easily influenced by the external "gas field".From the cost and maintenance point of view, PCAP touch screen because of the more complex technology, high production process requirements, so the cost is usually high. And if it fails, maintenance is relatively complex, requiring professional equipment and technical personnel to detect and repair the capacitive sensing part. The cost of infrared touch screen is relatively low, like a cost-effective "practical player".Its maintenance is also relatively simple, generally if there is a problem, the main check whether the infrared emitting tube and the receiving tube are working normally, just like checking a traffic system composed of "traffic lights" (infrared tubes), where the "light" is not bright or signal transmission problems, targeted maintenance. In terms of application scenarios, PCAP touch screens are often used in smart phones, tablets and other handheld devices due to their high accuracy, which require users to perform delicate operations, such as handwriting input and clicking small ICONS on small mobile phone screens. The infrared touch screen is widely used in large-size equipment, such as information query terminals in shopping malls, large electronic whiteboards in meeting rooms, etc.Imagine that on the information query terminal in the shopping mall, the infrared touch screen is like a reliable "guide". People click on the screen with their fingers to query the location of the store, promotion information, etc., even if the screen is large, it can provide services stably. In the electronic whiteboard scene, the infrared touch screen allows people to write, erase and other operations easily, like a "big drawing board" that can record everyone's creativity.
